The Commonwealth is an association of independent sovereign states spread over every continent and ocean. From Africa to Asia, the Paci?c shores to the Caribbean, the Commonwealth’s 2 billion people make up 30% of the world’s population and are of many faiths, races, languages, cultures and traditions. The Commonwealth Games is a unique, world class, multi-sports event which is held once every four years. It is often referred to as the ‘Friendly Games’. The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) is the organization that is responsible for the direction and control of the Commonwealth Games. As a means of improving society and the general well being of the people of the Commonwealth, the CGF also encourages and assists education via sport development and physical recreation. Underlying every decision made by the CGF are three core values: - HUMANITY - EQUALITY - DESTINY. These values help to inspire and unite millions of people and symbolise the broad mandate of the CGF within the Commonwealth.
The federation is the supreme authority in all matters concerning the Commonwealth games. Responsibility is vested in the federation for the direction, policy and control of the Commonwealth Games.
Vision
To promote a unique, friendly, world class Commonwealth games and to develop sport for the benefit of the people, the nations and the territories of the Commonwealth, and thereby strengthen the Commonwealth.
Mission
To ensure the successful organization and celebration of the Commonwealth Games and to promote the best interests of athletes participating in them and to assist in the development of sport throughout the Commonwealth.
Objects
The objects of federation are:-
1. The promote the Commonwealth Games, which sgall be held every four year and shall be open to eligible competitors representing Affiliated CGAs.
2. To establish rules regulations for the Commonwealth games which conform to the technical rules of the IFs governing the sports concern, as may be modified and applied by the Federation to ensure that the overriding principles of the Commonwealth games are observed.
3. To promote Commonwealth sporting competitions and establish rules for other events (including cultural activities and festivals attached to such events) including but not restricted to such events as the Commonwealth youth Games and Commonwealth Championships.
4. To encourage and assist sport and sport development and physical recreation throughout the Commonwealth.
5. To promote the shared values of integrity, fair play, competence, commitment to excellence, respect for gender equality and tolerance, including the fight against the use in sport of drugs and of unhealthy or performance enhancing substances.
