History of Kodaikanal :

The primitive tribes of Paliyans and Pulyans had their settlement in the region of Kodaikanal. These tribes lived in this area during the 14th century.

In 1821, Lt. B.S. Ward visited the place as an inspector. He was actually the first European to visit the hill station. American missionaries also subsequently moved to the place and built a number of houses. The missionaries also erected several churches. There are regular bus services to the town of Kodaikanal from the towns of Palani, Madurai, Kodaikanal Road, Dindigul, Theni, Tiruchirapalli, Kumuli (Thekkady) and Coimbatore.
